Network infrastructure is big.. If you are using multiple hubs = daisy chained together instead of using network switches attached using a b ackbone is also very big.. Browser sends a lot of data back/forth with mult= iple requests, so lag time can also hinder your response. If you are in a WAN type environemnt, CITRIX or Terminal Server is a mu ch better fit. Using that here at our customer in Switzerland with 80 users= in Switzerland and 80 users in US on 9 CITRIX servers.. Works very well.. = Browser was unusable from a regular network attachment whereas CITRIX works= very nicely now. We also added Green Screen, EW= P, frx and analytics all on the same servers. Management is nice, performan= ce is nice.. We are really only using 3 physical servers using VMWARE to sp= lit them up into 3 servers. Very nice and low TCO especially if they = needed to buy 150+ new PCs that were 5+ years old and now they don't. </= DIV> Michael Franchino Custom Systems Corpora= tion http://www.cussys.com (973) 726-0202 X214 (Phone) (973) 726-4552 (Fax) -----mapics-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: ----- To: <= ;mapics-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> From: "Mike Smith" <mike_smith@xxxxxxx&g= t; Sent by: mapics-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx Date: 09/24/2003 11:53AM<BR= >Subject: Re: Question Re: Browser response time Skip, We found her= e that, as Mike Crawford stated earlier, the 100MB network cards and lin= es are critical to Browser performance. I would find it hard to believe= that your 400 is the bottleneck in your stated environment. Make sure = 400 nics and PC nics are capable of 100MB, we found that to be an issue = on some PCs here. You may want to have someone perform a network throug= hput test to insure transmission speed isn't the issue, many small servi= ce companies will do this on the cheap. Also keeping 400 file sizes in = check is important. Good Luck. _____________ _________________________ _________ This is the MAPICS ERP System Discussion (MA= PICS-L) mailing list To post a message email: MAPICS-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx T= o subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://list= s.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/mapics-l or email: MAPICS-L-request@= midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http= ://archive.midrange.com/mapics-l.
