Inquiry on Inactivated Companies

We are a company that runs IFM. Within the last year, we inactivated a
couple of our companies (Via Table Maintenance / Work With Financial
Divisions).  

We recently needed to do some research on these companies. When I went to
inquire, we get an error message "Financial Divison Not Found"

We sent a inquiry into MAPICS, and were told the only way to inqurie on
previously inactivated companies is to reactivate them, and to "limit the
access to a select group of employees" to prevent any transactions from
being processed against the company incorrectly.

Does anyone have experience with this? I find it hard to believe MAPICS did
not provide for functionality to inquire on companies that have been
inactivated, but this is what the MAPICS "help" line is telling me.
