The validation user exit would check to see if the information that was 
defaulted was complete.  If it needed more info, it would flag the 
field(s) as an error.  The field(s) would be displayed on the errors card 
for user input.

The difference is we do not try to validate during "default generation" 
and then provide an interrupt (pop-up) to the user.   The pop-up is 
accomplished by the fact that the field would be displayed on a card and 
allow the user to accept what was defaulted or key something in.  If they 
key in the correct info then no error is encountered.  If not they will be 
reminded via validation.

I do not know if the field you mention is maintainable in CSM.  If not, I 
would use a user field and duplicate its content into the reserved field 
during "update" processing.

Robert,

The field is already there in MBDEREP as DEAAFA with
a description of GEO Code - SP Reserved. It gets populated
by the user exit without input unless there is an
address that does not geocode. For example, someone overrides
the ship to to Las Vegas, Texas. Then green screen it pops
up and asks what is the real address. It would be real tough
to populate this in a totally automated fashion since in 
taxation the side of the street may matter, so it goes
all the way down to the building address. 

Any ideas?

There are 2 ways you would collect additional information during order 
entry.  One would be to use the existing user fields.  Client applications 

allow you to display and maintain user fields.  They can be placed on 
create prompts or cards within the cardfile.  The second way is to create 
an extension to the appropriate object using Integrator.  The extension 
fields can also be placed on create prompts or cards.  The user fields or 
extension fields are then passed to the server with the transaction.  You 
could then use them for any follow-on processing.

We are considering a third way for R7.  It would be to add a maintainable 
logical field in Integrator.  This field would not exist in the database 
but would be passed to the server with the transaction.

We are using CSM for order entry and maintenance.  It's working fine for 
us, especially after we upgraded our iSeries from a 720 to a 270 server 
model, BUT we are not using Pick-Pack-and-Ship.  We use the Offline 
Shipping Enhancement.  We are using CSM user exits, but only for order 
entry.  I am under the undertanding that the user exits aren't executed in 


the middle of processing, only after you hit the "update" or "post" or 
"create" buttons.

That required that we change how we process the orders somewhat, (we also 
used UMBCOD1R and such to get information in mid-order entry in green 
screen processing) but we had already developed most of the logic to 
handle COM_Net orders, which are also posted in a "batch" type mode, 
loaded through off-line entry.  CSM uses the user exits, but the logic 
must be changed to handle batch mode - no screen handling is available.  I 


have no idea if you can get external code to execute to retrieve 
information for the screens.

This sounds like a good question for Paragon SI.

Anyone from the user base using CSM to do much other than inquiry?
None of the shipment logic seems in place from availability to promise
on down (or up) depending on your view.

And...user exits. We have the Vertex add on, when entering an order
green screen the select a geocode screen pops up. The same user
exit runs under CSM but gets a device not found error when it tries
to acquire the correct geocode. How is it possible to ask for and
receive info out of the COM user exits under the client architecture?
