I had to do the same thing, multiple fields of different lengths. No fun, but it got the job done. I found it frustrating because I could not use indicators in the DDS to signal which barcoded field to print (perhaps that was just me?) and wound up parsing the string to determine length, move to appropriate field then write a record that was specific to the length of the barcode. For this particular customer I wound up with 5 specs for printing (write records) to accommodate the variance in length. The only difference between the records was the length! Cut & paste programming at its best! Perhaps someone has a better suggestion given the complexity of the DDS for MAPICS output. But first I would challenge the requirement! Good luck! |---------+---------------------------------> | | "Tom Wood" | | | <TomW@fortrecoveryindu| | | stries.com> | | | Sent by: | | | mapics-l-admin@midrang| | | e.com | | | | | | | | | 12/11/2002 08:13 AM | | | Please respond to | | | mapics-l | | | | |---------+---------------------------------> > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: <mapics-l@midrange.com> | | cc: | | Subject: Barcode() in DDS | > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] We're working on barcoding a few fields in our COM packing slip and are wondering what's the best way to output (barcode) ONLY the contiguous non-blank characters in the field. For example, our customer item number field may be 20 characters in length, but for a given customer we may only need 8 characters and only want to barcode those 8 characters, not the additional 12 spaces on the end. Make sense?
