Good News Everybody!

A new search engine is coming soon.

As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

Hey Konrad,

Understand what you're saying. In my situation, I'm only dealing with
trying to eliminate (truncate) trailing spaces. Sounds like there's not
an easy way to do this?

Thanks.

Tom,

Barcode length relates to field length on OS/400.
Furthermore, if the blanks are embedded you essentially
have two different fields so I am not sure what advantage
the shorter barcode would be to you.

At the very least you would have to keep a cross reference
table saying the A123 456 = A123456 and then ensure in the
database that there was not actually a A123456 so the application
would not get confused when you went to link them back up.

Here we chop item number to 13 and serial number to 7 but then
expand them in size putting them back to MAPICS, no embedded
characters are stripped out tho, so padding with blanks works
fine.

Good luck!

Konrad

We're working on barcoding a few fields in our COM packing slip and are
wondering what's the best way to output (barcode) ONLY the contiguous
non-blank characters in the field. For example, our customer item
number field may be 20 characters in length, but for a given customer we
may only need 8 characters and only want to barcode those 8 characters,
not the additional 12 spaces on the end. Make sense?

Thanks,

Tom
