The 'pure' vanilla mapics option is to use EPDM revision level control.. This would allow you keep the P/S intact for each item rev. (maybe even in an ENG site), and release the new item rev to MFG site upon eng release control. You set the ITEM effective to date for the old rev level and new effective date for the new item. not to over simplify, there are complication with mass replace and such you will want to model. let me know if you would like more info on this approach. i can be reached direct at jeffreygsnyder@hotmail.com hope this helps Jeff Snyder, CPIM 724-69-2506 From: "David Kemp" <dkemp@eecradar-idt.com> Reply-To: mapics-l@midrange.com To: <mapics-l@midrange.com> Subject: Obsolete Parts and Product Structures Date: Wed, 4 Dec 2002 16:00:20 -0600 This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Our MAPICS is R6 and we are using PDM but have EPDM installed but not active. We have the situation where an item has become obsolete and has been used in the past in many product structures. A new item has been created to replace the obsolete item. However, we need to keep the obsolete item in the database so that historical product structures can be retrieved in the event repair is needed. Is there a method in MAPICS where a part can be flagged to make it unavailable to be used in newly created product structures? All words of wisdom are appreciated.
