David,
Look at the effectivity date support in PDM. It will allow you to phase out
item-A and replace it with item-B on any date you choose. You can leave
item-A in the pstruc and run BOM reports with a past effectivity date if you
choose.
Good luck.

Subject: Obsolete Parts and Product Structures

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Our MAPICS is R6 and we are using PDM but have EPDM installed but not
active.

We have the situation where an item has become obsolete and has been
used in the past in many product structures. A new item has been
created to replace the obsolete item. However, we need to keep the
obsolete item in the database so that historical product structures can
be retrieved in the event repair is needed.

Is there a method in MAPICS where a part can be flagged to make it
unavailable to be used in newly created product structures?

All words of wisdom are appreciated.
