This is not a particularly simple question. Setting the BOM up in PDM is
only half the issue, there is a host of Business questions and variables
that come into play, Planning, and Costing of which are not the least
(assume nothing) .

I would suggest that you begin with some overall general PDM PDM+ education,
particularly in the area of features and options, phantoms and function of
the S#.

Your mapics affiliate should be able to supply this education,
if you would like I would be more then willing to quote you on some on-site
education and workshops to explore and define a solution for your company.
(references available upon request) Please reply direct if you would like
to discuss further.

As an alternative, the information is also available in the reference
manuals,(CD) if you have the time and are so inclined. I would caution to
be sure to model (TEST ENV.) completely through MRP, production, costing and
of course COM.

 good luck,

Subject: FEATURES AND OPTIONS
Date: Tue, 19 Nov 2002 10:09:04 -0800

We are a designer and Manufacturer of Embedded Computers.

Our Bills of Materials are quite detailed, our products can be configured in
many different ways, and as such, we would like to implement Features and
Options.

All of our documentation references setting up the S-Number Template for the
PDM
tailoring Questionnaire, but we are using PDM+, and there is no tailoring
Questionnaire for this that I can find!

Also, what are the rules for adding Features and options to a BOM? When I
attempt to do this in the TEST environment, I get any manner of errors
stating
such things as "Feature/Option conflicts with Parent item type" etc. The
only
time that I am successful is when I add something to a bill and call it a
"Phantom"?

As an example, here is a common scenario that we would like to attempt to
tackle
using Features and Options. (Bear in mind that this is our take on how this
should work, if we ever get that far)

                    8553684A (256mb)
