Tom,

As far as I am concerned, the Word application needs to be launched
interactively. We have a program here that automatically creates a Word
document to print quotes. We use ASNA's AVR and launch it from CSM.

Tom,

Hmmm, generating a "Word" document from the AS/400 is going to be tricky,
if not impossible. I talked with someone pretty knowledgable about this
and he said the only way it could be done is using Java and you would have
to have the capability of setting
up classes in MS to use API's. A custom program API would have to be
written on the AS/400 to send the right parms to the MS API to generate the
document. Another thought would be to create your document as an ASCI file
that resides on the AS/400 with an
index to select from. Are you trying to create MSDS forms with your
packing slips or some other type of information automatically? You can
always copy the Packing Slip print program, rename it and call it from the
User Exit as well as calling additional
print programs before returning to your originating program.

I do know there were a couple of companies that use Office Vision which
resided on the AS/400 (not supported by IBM any longer though) that they
were able to execute this type of function seamlessly. Sorry, I can't
provide more details. Good luck in your
research.

still employ the user exit?

the MAPICS packing slip is printed, on an item-specific basis. Is anyone
interfacing Word (or other PC software) with MAPICS? Not sure if there's a
user-exit that would accomplish?
