Konrad left an excellent assessment of MAPICS' green screen strengths (MRP, IM, PCC, CRP, and so on). I also agree with his shortcomings, especially reporting. We basically replaced almost all of MAPICS reporting except for MRP Order Recommendation, and the accounting reports. Incidentally, COM worked very well for us, but no question - it is a labor intensive entry process. COM_Net helped out a lot on that for us (off-load the entry on your customers!). I'd look into that to help. It is also a possible alternative to COM order entry, but be careful, there are limitations - especially that you can't order non-inventory parts. If not for that, we may have used COM_Net internally instead of CSM. However, something to keep in mind. While the I/M and PC&C data entry is tedious, there are a LOT of data collection options that work very well with green screen MAPICS. These data collection applications (Paperless, Kronos, and others) alleviate the vast majority of the tedious data entry problems in MAPICS. We initially had Kronos (1993 through mid-2002), then switched to MDCC (Paperless) to increase flexibility. We use Paperless' GUI for some apps (requested to support touch screens in the plant), but they have an excellent green screen set of solutions that we also use. And they're fast! "Green screen" MAPICS works great - MAPICS has even released new versions of the green screen inquiries for EPDM customers. And the support is still excellent - I think that is definitely one of MAPICS' strong points, especially e:Info and the "No Wait Response" option. Dale @ Fleetwood
