hey guys, just some more 'food for thought' you could also set the item as b/l control, assuming cntrl w/h, and assign the b/l number as the length for that 'short' part number. this would simply give you a little more visibility of what you have. however, if you don't care once it's cut, i like the uncontrolled f/s approach. the 'IS' of whole lengths would disappear from inv. mrp, i/m wise, i.e. you would not have any visibility of shorts, they would simply be generally avail.. Have the 'IS' credit stores inv, debit f/s inv. and the 'IX' to credit f/s inv, debit WIP. the difference is the value of Floor stock inventory. , (the IX, is auto generated for uncontrolled f/s when the MO is release, and set the issue qty=to the req qty. no effect on the Onhand) of course you will have to model in test env. to ensure results you require. good luck jeff snyder CPIM mapics consultant -----Original Message----- From: Mark Dunn <mark.dunn@pdl.co.nz> To: "'mapics-l@midrange.com'" <mapics-l@midrange.com> Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2002 11:53:45 +1200 Subject: RE: Leftover pieces of Raw Material > Instead of creating a new number, make the part uncontrolled floor > stock. > As you require it, issue the whole length with an IS transaction. > Cut it to the size you require. > If you can use a shorter piece that is already issued, then you don't > have > to issue anything - as Uncontrolled stock assumes you have enough on > the > shop floor to supply all orders. > A safety stock on the item on the shelf will ensure that it is > reordered > when the level of inventory in Mapics falls to a selected point. > By adding the item to the BOM's you can then see this item in MRP and > purchase with some accuracy based on the IX generated transactions. > > I hope this makes sense as I have a bit of a cold and aren't thinking > too > straight today. > > Regards, > Mark Dunn > Business Analyst > PDL Electronics > New Zealand > > On Behalf Of Ann Neal > Subject: Leftover pieces of Raw Material > -----Original Message----- From: Mark Dunn <mark.dunn@pdl.co.nz> To: "'mapics-l@midrange.com'" <mapics-l@midrange.com> Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2002 11:53:45 +1200 Subject: RE: Leftover pieces of Raw Material > Instead of creating a new number, make the part uncontrolled floor > stock. > > Regards, > Mark Dunn > Business Analyst > PDL Electronics > New Zealand > > On Behalf Of Ann Neal > Subject: Leftover pieces of Raw Material > > After cutting a piece of pipe (raw material), the leftover length may > be > 10' and eventually you may have 4 pieces of 10' each (example).
