hey guys,
just some more 'food for thought' you could also set the item as b/l
control, assuming cntrl w/h, and assign the b/l number as the length
for that 'short' part number. this would simply give you a little more
visibility of what you have.

however, if you don't care once it's cut, i like the uncontrolled f/s
approach. the 'IS' of whole lengths would disappear from inv. mrp, i/m
wise, i.e. you would not have any visibility of shorts, they would
simply be generally avail..
Have the 'IS' credit stores inv, debit f/s inv.
and the 'IX' to credit f/s inv, debit WIP. the difference is the value
of Floor stock inventory. , (the IX, is auto generated for uncontrolled
f/s when the MO is release, and set the issue qty=to the req qty. no
effect on the Onhand)

of course you will have to model in test env. to ensure results you
require.

good luck
