Thank you one and all for all the suggestions and helpful tips.  I failed to 
mention that their code is at Release 5 and the Browser is not used for 
generating transactions at this level.  All transactions are created on green 
screens.

Both the reference and the reason code fields are used for other purposes and 
are not available.  Transactions are updated immediately.  We are going to try 
George's suggestion as we have a couple of other modified programs - we'll just 
be sure to document fully for future reference.

You guys are the best!  We really appreciate your comments and feedback.  I'll 
let you know how it works once we get it into production.
