Ed,

They're sub-assemblies that can be combined various ways. The
sub-assemblies end up on the shelf as a finished good but we don't sell it
that way. We don't stock the actual part number we're selling because
that would limit our flexibility to recombine the sub assemblies, also we
would be forced to carry a much larger inventory.

Bud,
Shouldn't the components have been relieved when the item went into finished
goods? If so, then you shouldn't need the M.O. at all. If not, how did it
get built and put into stock?

We have a need to automatically generate MO's and I'm wondering if anyone
has done this.

This is what we want to do. When an order is entered through COM order
entry a custom program would execute from a user exit. This program would
check to see if the item ordered is in stock and unallocated (already built
and on the shelf). If so, we would want an MO to be automatically created
and released so the component items are properly relieved from inventory via
the MO and the paperwork is produced. We just want to eliminate the
extra labor involved in entering the MO and releasing it when we know the
item is already available for shipment.
