We are a relatively new installation of Mapics and have used SQL and service programs for all functions that update the Mapics database. I have also made an effort to exclusively use SQL for accessing the Mapics files in order to avoid recompiles due to level checking when upgrading to a new release. This way we only have to check to see if a field has been removed or the functionality replaced for the upgrade. By placing the access to frequent functionality such as retrieving the item description in a service program, the programs which use this do not have to be touched. Only the service program would need to be changed in the event this information changed where/how it was located. I am also hoping that this will make the move to JAVA and object oriented programming easier if needed later. Just some ideas on how SQL can be used with Mapics, Lisa -----Original Message----- From: McCready, Joan [mailto:Joan.McCready@metaltekint.com] Sent: Friday, February 22, 2002 5:14 PM To: MAPICS-List (E-mail) Subject: SQL and MAPICS Hi! I have just finished Intro to, Intermediate Applications of and Adv Appls of SQL through our local univeristy continuing ed program. I am now thoroughly dangerous! What tool do those of you who use SQL use with MAPICS / AS/400? We don't have (and really don't need) MS SQL Server. Any suggestions? I've played with Access today, and can query MAPICS files, but can't update - or at least I haven't found the magic button yet.
