I strongly suggest the use of Access and ODBC. Within Access you can
create linked files to the desired AS/400 file and run update queries. We
have conducted major data migrations in this manner. The good news is that
it is not that hard to do. My word for the wise is to be current on all
your drivers. I would strongly suggest is that you use the offline file
loads.

Subject: RE: uploading spreadsheets into MAPICS

I would be very careful doing this. I use Excel every day to download
information into MAPICS through ODBC and CA, but I am very hesitant about
allowing data entry into MAPICS. The biggest reason is that you have no
editing control of the data. Certainly, MAPICS' offline entry catches most
data errors, but correcting them with MAPICS' tools proves to be a tiring
task.

If you don't have an RPG programmer to create data entry screens or upload
validation, you could use Access and ODBC to write the information into the
offline files. Using Access will allow you to connect to reference tables on
the 400 to help validate the information. Offline price file maintenance is
a perfect example of how to do this -- The MAPICS COM Manual describes it in
detail and can be a model for other files (Page D-1:Working with COM offline
pricing files).

Good luck!
Patrick

Subject: uploading spreadsheets into MAPICS

Does anyone know of any software packages that you are using to upload
spreadsheets or comma delimited files into mapics offline load files? Or are
you just using client access?

I need some software that the end user can use to upload data? We are
increasingly getting more requests by users for them to have the capability
to upload spreadsheets of data into MAPICS.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
