Hi Joan,

My Employer had the same requirement a few years ago. I am giving an example below, hope that helps.

Final Product: Ball Bearing BC6205

Bill of Material

1 Outer Ring (OR6205)

.2 OM6205

..3 Tube (XTO6205)

1 Inner Ring (IR6205)

.2 Bar (XBI6025)

1 Cage (CR6205)

.2 Strip (XCG6205)

1 Balls (CB6205)

.2 Wire (XW6205)

The Outer Ring routing was :

  1. Turning
  2. Heat Treatment
  3. Face+OD Grinding
  4. Groove Grinding
  5. Honing
  6. Assembly

The turning operation was done by an outside party. My company supplied the material to vendor and received turned rings. The Turned ring was given its own item number (OM6205) and had a record in Item Master & Item Balance. The primary purpose of a different Item Number was to have an accurate standard cost which may not be relevant for you.

Both Manufacturing & Purchase orders were opened for OM6205. Material was issued against this MO. On receipt of the turned rings RD, RI & RP transactions were done against the PO and RM transaction for the MO.

This served dual purpose of Accounts payable and Inventory accounting (i.e. Outside Party Ledger).

Bottom line is that u will have to raise both MO as well as PO for the item under consideration.

Hope this helps....

Regards,

Hrishikesh
