Might be worth investigating the product called OPTIMIZER from Midrange
software.  It would appear to do what you want.

Hi, everyone!

I don't remember if I asked this question of the list before or not, but I
don't have any "saved" replies, so I'm guessing I didn't.

We need to track WIP items going out to and returning from outside
processing in the MO. The only way I've figured out to do this is to have
two operations - a TO OUTSIDE operation and a RECD FROM OUTSIDE operation.
We also want the shipping department to know the PO information for this
outside work - I've been hand-entering this in the ADDITIONAL DESCRIPTIONs
file for these operations.

Anyone have a better, or slicker, or less manual way of handling this? What
do other companies do to track WIP pieces at outside processes?
