This question is address to users in the Aerospace and Automotive
Industries:

I am an independent contractor specializing in MAPICS and am currently
working at two Aerospace MAPICS accounts. We are having similar issues with
the COM application and I am posing a question to these users - What type of
modifications or enhancements have you had to (or would like to) do to make
COM more efficient for your company? We are going to approach MAPICS with a
list of issues.

We have some of the following issues:
1) 99.9% of our customers require that we their Purchase Order be
"acknowledged" exactly the way we received it. For example, we must
reference their "line numbers" (we use the User Sequence). This sequence
needs to appear on the Acknowledgement and Packing List.

2) Most, if not all, want their Customer number on all documents - that is
not the problem we are having. The issue we have is that the Order
Inquiries and Maintenance display the Customers Item - not ours. When
inquiring, we usually know our items by heart, not theirs. Then, when we
find it, it does not show the User sequence until the next panel.

3) Shipment Inquiry only shows the data we need to see on the Pick
Transaction display.

4) Many customers do not allow us to use the Blanket function within COM -
each release has its' own "line item" (see #1). If the Order has many
"releases", trying to find the correct line during the Shipping process is
sometimes a guess - since the display does not show the User Sequence.

We tried the subset function, but it does not prompt for user sequence.

5) We have some other issues but do not want to take up anymore
time. If anyone has similar issues, please contact me
ericw@midrangespecialists.com - we are trying to get enough customers
together to contact a MAPICS Customer Advocate to represent us.

Thanks for you time...
Eric A. Wolf
