  • Subject: RE: Types of Mapics "Costs" Stored in Item Master Files

Al,

I was hoping someone else would answer, since I don't have a MAPICS system
or manuals to check my answers, but no one has come forward, so here goes
from memory:

ITEMASB - Current Unit Cost and Standard Unit Cost are set by rolling up the
purchase, labor, and overhead costs during a Current or Standard Cost Rollup
job.

ITEMASA - Unit Cost Default is updated from ITEMASB Standard Unit Cost when
the IM monthend/period end close is run, IF the option to update the Unit
Costs is selected on the prompt screen for the close job. I believe that
Inventory revaluation transactions are written to IM Transaction History
(IMHIST) for the correct amounts to keep things in balance. These can then
be fed to the General Ledger if you have the IM to GL interface turned on.

ITEMBL - Average Cost and Last Cost are updated for purchased items when
purchase receipts are made. I vaguely recall that that's documented in one
of the reference manuals, either for IM or Purchasing. I think there's a
way for the Standard Unit Cost in ITEMBL to be updated, but I don't recall
now what it was (we never used it where I was before, as we drove off Unit
Cost Default instead).

I hope this helps a little.
