For those of you who want to get iSeries Access for Linux up and
running, here is a good link. It has worked for me on two different
laptops.

The problem isn't Ubuntu, because Ubuntu isn't supplying the software,
IBM is, and thus it is IBM's problem. IBM has implemented this with
minimal effort. Paul is correct, IBM is not supporting the system i for
Linux. Twice in the last year, IBM has made announcements on how they
are partnering with Canonical (Ubuntu's parent company) to provide a M$
free desktop. But when it comes to the i, it is their forgotten child. I
have pointed IBM's shortcomings to IBM regarding the system i, and it
went nowhere.
The packaging for iSeries Access for Linux is RPM, which works on Redhat
and openSuse. Ubuntu uses Debian for packaging. IBM does not provide a
Debian package for iSeries Access for Linux. Also IBM uses Microsoft
fonts for iSeries Access for Linux and doesn't allow resident fonts to
be used.
Zend does a great job of providing their Eclipse based IDE for Windows,
Mac and Linux. Does IBM provide RDI in a Linux version. No!
I really think Ubuntu is ready for Prime Time. IBM i for Linux, is not.
