Thanks for the reply but it was a mistype on my part. From what I can gather,
I should be using xt5250 and not tn5250. xt5250 however fails to run for me
and display a number of errors:

Warning: Color name "black" is not defined
Warning: Cannot convert string "nil2" to type FontStruct
Warning: Cannot convert string "foreground gray90;lines
1,-1,-1,-1,-1,l:foreground gray60;lines -1,0,0,0,0-1" to type XawDisplayList
Warning: Color name "white" is not defined
Segmentation fault

I didn't imagine it would become so complicated or difficult since nearly most
packages install and run just fine on Ubuntu, when installed from standard
repositories. Thanks all.

This

env=IBM-3477-FC

should be

env.TERM = IBM-3477-FC

I have a standard Ubuntu desktop where I installed tn5250. How do I make
to
display in 132 column format? Setting the environment parameter to
env=IBM-3477-FC, does not appear to have any effect. I can expand the
terminal
window but the iSeries (AS400) display remains at 80 columns.

Thanks everybody.

Sincerely
