My problem is different... I can't set anything on AS400. I'm trying to port 
some workstations to linux, but print settings on AS400 are untouchables. I 
need to set printing condition (if possible) with lp5250d. Most users aren't 
able to set anything (eg: I'll create 2 icons on theyr desktops containing 
commands like "killall lp5250d && lp5250d env.DEVNAME=PRTxx 
env.IBMMFRTYPMDL='*HP4' AS400" so they can choose if print label or A4). I 
don't know if I've explained myself!! :-((!!!

really don't know if this is my case... :-(.
