Hello, I will reply to the KDE Icon issue.. You need to "Right-Click" the mouse and when the popup menu appears Highlight "New" and when the next popup menu appears highlight application, and then release the mouse button. This will cause a window to appear with a text entry field that will be defaulted to "Program.kdelnk", you want to highlight the word "Program" and replace that with "TN5250", and then you can click OK. This will cause another window to appear which will have 4 tabs at the top, you wish to click the "Execute" tag which will allow you to key in the command to execute, "tn5250 -y IBM-3477-FC airor". When you have entered the command to execute, you can click OK and the Icon will be created on your desktop. Any further questions about this portion of your question should probably be directed towards a more KDE focused group. Check out <http://www.kde.org> Good Luck, and Welcome to Linux...
