The problem is that there isn't a standard vt-type emulation which has
24 function keys - vt100 has four (I think) and vt420 has either ten or twelve
(I can't remember) and no way to read shift keys. vt52 doesn't even have
function keys, I don't beleive ;)

If you can find some type of emulator for Windows which can support twenty-four
function keys, it's a trivial task to configure Linux to work with that
terminal type. Note that the terminal type will probably be something weird
like 'SCO' or something (I think PowerTerm has one of these, but I don't know
how functional that terminal type is). Again, no *standard* terminal supports
twenty-four function keys.

This is the reason we implemented the vt100-style escape sequences. You can
use ESC-1 through ESC-= for F1 through F12 and ESC-! through ESC-+ for F13
through F24. You can substitute Ctrl+G for ESC, as it doesn't have the timeout
issue that ESC does.

It will probably be hard to determine which emulation modes of which emulators
can support twenty-four keys. If anyone on the list _does_ know, please pipe
up. Otherwise, you'll probably have to call up the terminal vendors, get a
techie, and grill him. If you find that a terminal type *does* support 24
function keys, the next thing to do would be to see if the techie has a termcap
or terminfo file. And lastly, if you do find out that information, please
post it on the list ;) I'd like to know.

I'd try PowerTerm and SecureCRT .. I think these are the two where I was able
to talk to the techies (for other reasons - PowerTerm about doing SSL+5250 and
SecureCRT about doing something I forget) and they are generally very
interested in feedback and improving their clients.
