The jruby instructions are pretty straightforward because it uses the gem installer:

jruby -s gem install glassfish

That was all I remember doing besides starting glassfish at it's assigned port. Alas, the Oracle acquisition has further affected the glassfish gem which is no longer supported since the Oracle acquisition:

I *have* made some progress on running Glassfish on i but still sorting through issues. I no longer get a dump of garbage when I start the domain. I can start the asadmin instance but when I invoke the 'start-domain domain1' command I get an error about a configuration issue and I haven't had the opportunity to run it down. I have been most successful in running the Glassfish commands from either SSH or qp2term. When I sort things out I'll post back.

Pete,

Vacations are nice :)

I agree that the Oracle takeover have disrupted things and that nobody will
do this for us. I was hoping that the embedded version would be easier, as
most likely this is the one used by JRuby, but this still appears to be a
moving target. Are the JRuby one Glassfish 2 or 3 (I would guess 2).

Would you put up instructions on rubyoni on how you did it?

The NoClassDefinitionError is really strange. Are you certain it was not
ClassNotFoundException?

Thorbjørn,

I just got back from a vacation....

I read through your posts. I posted to the Glassfish/Sun forum almost 9
months ago with a promise from the developer to look at it. I followed
up twice with further promises of looking at it but nothing came of it.
I can only assume the Oracle acquisition has disrupted things.

My original attempt resulted in NoClassDefinitionError. More recently I
have a stack trace of unintelligible junk. I wondered it if was a CCSID
issue since something is obviously running in order to deliver the
output but the output is perhaps in a wrong format. I sent the updated
stack trace to the Glassfish list but never got a response.

Might be a JVM issue but I suspect something else. It might be something
that IBM could investigate, if only I could figure out who to get the
information to.

I haven't tried to run with the very latest Glassfish but it sounds like
your results are similar to mine and others on this list. The weirdness
is that the Ruby Gem of Glassfish DOES run perfectly on i (see
http:\\www.rubyoni.com ). That is what I am surprised the "full" version
does not.

Back in January we discussed if Glassfish 3 could run on the AS/400, and

I am now in a situation close to a deadline where my OpenFaces JSF 2.0 web
application code works well under Glassfish 3.0.1 on my PC but gives some
obscure stack trace when wanting to do a very specific Ajax call when
running in an embedded Jetty 6 container on the AS/400.

I’d like to hear if anybody got around to get Glassfish up and running on
the AS/400 since? Embedded will be fine.

Anyone?

Thanks.
