You can create an AS400 object with the credentials - new AS400("localhost", "user", "password") and ask to connect(AS400.COMMAND). Remember to disconnect afterwards.

This will validate the login and fail with an exception if it is incorrect.

note that incorrect credentials will trigger the countdown towards disabling the account.
