Trust me on this: Every Java programmer (maybe except Joe Pluta :) ) has been bitten by the classpath.
In my opinion, the general rigidity and stubbornness in the Java specification is the mortar that allows us to build cathedrals, so just take it as a learning experience :)

Be very careful. As I understood it when I looked at it there is only one single place for deploying code, and only class-files, no jars. This requires great care if you want to have multiple versions running at the same time.
