This brings up an interesting thought. Sell the compiler for a price (not
per-seat) and sell licenses for the development tools. In the case of the
ADTS break it up into individual and bundled prices. Lets be honest, even
the hard-core WDSC user goes to the green screen for some of these tools on
a regular basis.

On the OPM and ILE side... we are stuck. We have a significant amount of
both ILE and OPM (back to S/36)

I think the point is that when it comes to Developer Environments,
Microsoft got it right.

Put aside the IDE issue for a moment. Both MS and Sun got the compiler
issue right! IBM hasn't. The compilers for Java and the .Net languages
(at least the MS-provided ones) are FREE. That's right, F-R-E-E. Just
download the SDK and go!

And actually Kelly raised an interesting point. While we'd all like to
think that all development sould be ILE based, the reality is for many
shops there is legacy OPM code and the programmers are trying (still) to
move towards ILE. The new pricing will force a decision, convert all
your OPM to ILE, or scrap ILE and stay w/OPM. Sorry, but I think many
will chose OPM.
