Hello All,

I have been using a tool called JFormDesigner for general Swing GUI design and am very pleased with the results. It does save the form definitions in its own format (as Thorbjørn mentions) but the final output is an easily modifiable .java source file with clearly marked "do not touch" sections to be revised by the tool if you change the form's layout. My approach is to subclass the generated classes with event handling and tweaks, but this is just my concoction, not a requirement of the tool. Nothing System i specific, but I've been getting good milage out of this one...

I have had a look at the GUI Bilder and it looks pretty good. I would like
to build a test application and I want to know if it is a dead-end before I
start.

I just gave it a quick look, and it seems pretty nifty.

I would personally not use it as it uses its own save file formats
instead of Java code. Modern GUI editors know how to work with the raw
Java code generating a GUI, meaning that you do not have to use the tool
to do a small change but can just edit the Java file.

I know that the Visual Editor in Eclipse can do this. WSDCi also has a
lot of iSeries components which I haven't used yet though (do not do GUI
at the moment).

So my personal opinion is that this is a dead end.

Best regards,
