My favorite is WDSCi Lpex editor. Use IFS Files subsystem to navigate to
the log file, select open with Lpex. Works great, and I haven't had trouble
opening files being logged to by active Java application running on the
iSeries.

Paul,

Without going to a different editor, you are probably stuck.

One other work around if you use an Office package: You can open it
with Microsoft Word (or Open Office Writer if you are a "progressive"
technologist). Word will prompt you to open it in read only mode but
the formatting is a little bit better than notepad. OO Writer just
opens it. You could create a shortcut in the "Send To" folder of the
folks who need to open the log files to simplify the process so they
just right click the file and "send to" Writer for example.
