I'm sorry James, I missed your question.  I would have been able to save you
some testing (although you'd probably have still wanted to do the testing
yourself, just to be sure <grin>).  I've done a ton of work with RLA (I even
wrote an RLA<->JDBC comparison course) and I've used just the techniques
you've mentioned.  I've also used the keyed positioning techniques, and they
work pretty much as you would expect as well.
