VerifyError using reportwriter classes to generate XSLFO PDF document

I am trying to use the reportwriter classes to generate a spool file to an 
output queue using PCLContext. 

As a test I have downloaded IBM's example from 
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r3/index.jsp?topic=/rzahh/pclrunreport.htm
. 
I am using xerces321.jar and xmlapis11.jar from 
/QIBM/ProdData/OS400/xml/lib. 
I am running the test from my laptop using Sun's JDK 1.4.2_08, connecting 
to the iseries.

I get the following error message:

Ready to parse XSL document
java.lang.VerifyError: (class: 
com/ibm/as400/util/reportwriter/processor/XSLReportProcessor, method: 
setXSLFOSource signature: (Ljava/io/Reader;)V) Incompatible object 
argument for function call
        at PCLRunReport.main(PCLRunReport.java:74)

Any ideas?  Do I have to run this locally on the iseries?  Do I need to 
use the JDK on the iseries to run this?
