Error - Failed open of batch STDIN null file???

All of a sudden I can't run a Java program in batch mode on V5R3. I'm getting the message: 

Message . . . . :   Error detected while running java in batch mode.
Cause . . . . . : An error was detected while running java in batch. The reason code is 2. The errno is . The reason codes are described as 
follows: 2 -- Failed open of batch STDIN null file.

Has anyone run into this problem?  Any suggestions on a work around?
