The -Xmx parm on the java command controls the max memory allocation for the JVM. The -Xms parm controls garbage collection interval, which is different from some other platforms on which it controls the minimum memory allocation. Not specifying anything for -Xms will default to garbage collect every 2MB of objects allocated. This can really burn some CPU by running GC very frequently. You don't want to go too high either. You probably want something like -Xms32m for a uniprocessor iSeries. -Marty
