What kind of printer?

It needs to be an ASCII LAN attached one, not a twinax or *IPDS one.

Then you need an DEVTYPE(*USERASCII) printer file

CRTPRTF FILE(QGPL/PDFPRTF) DEV(MYHPPRT) DEVTYPE(*USERASCII) TEXT('A printer
file for use with PDFs')

Spool the data using the printer file.

Either write your own HLL program...

Or use FTP as suggested by David Morris:

ftp mysys
bin
namefmt 1
put /ifsdir/file.pdf /qsys.lib/qgpl.lib/pdfprtf.file
