We are on as AS400 running V5R2 (V5R3 works the same).  Java Version 1.4.2
We are trying to use a vendor supplied java client to connect to their
(vendor's) website via HTTPS.  This client works in nonsecure mode going to
an http site but fails as soon as we go to https.  We are getting the
message:

 

java.net.MalformedURLException: unknown protocol: https 

 

Press ENTER to end terminal session.                    

 

We are using the following string to initiate the program thru qshell:

 

java -Djava.protocol.handler.pkgs=com.sun.net.ssl.internal.www.protocol

-verbose -cp .:. (list of jars)

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
