However, every 5 seconds strikes me as fairly frequent. I would think that every 30 or 60 seconds would be plenty. I would think that the performance hit to any server created by requesting a small static HTML page, i5 included, would be tolerable under minimal work-load. What you're going to find is that when your iSeries is under heavy load and work is being queued at various levels in the system, the every 5 second thing IS going to be an undesirable detriment More importantly than any of this to me, though, is the question: aren't there other legitimate monitoring tools that could be used to perform this function at various levels throughout the system? (Network health monitoring, process activity monitoring, etc. etc. etc.) My opinion - take it or leave it :) Joe -----Original Message----- From: java400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:java400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ken Slaugh Sent: Friday, February 11, 2005 9:43 AM To: Java Programming on and around the iSeries / AS400 Subject: RE: HTML Get Insignificant? That would depend on the URL he is using. If it's simply a static page, then the performance is closer to 'insignificant'. I wonder why every 5 seconds. Is this a performance test, an up-time test, or is it an futile attempt to overpower an iSeries with an Intel box? The network administrator on my company has created a process that runs on a windows server. This process runs a HTML GET on our ISeries webserver every 5 seconds to monitor if the web server is up. Will this process have a performance effect on the ISeries. He says it will be so insignificant, we should not consider it. Is he correct?
