I have no direct data on that question, John. Here's an interesting thing, though: the iSeries benchmarks all specified "AS/400 Developer's Kit for Java", while the i5 test stated simply "IBM Developer Kit for Java". Note no specific AS/400 label. This ties in with rumors I've heard of IBM going to a single JVM for all their boxes. I wonder if the AS/400-specific JVM (which supported things like adopted authority) simply never got the same attention to performance that the "standard" IBM JVM got, and finally the powers that be decided to stuff the jet-fueled JVM into the i5 as well.
