One quick way would be for the Java program to use the toolbox to wait on a data queue. Then the native program could just send a message whenever it needed to. Personally, I prefer calling an RPG program which in turn waits on the data queue; that separates the Java program from the specifics of the data queue. But that's me. Another person might stick the call to the RPG program in a stored procedure and then use JDBC to access it. There are lots of ways to accomplish this particular goal.
