Sorry for my bad english, but so posts can you exclude, how do you will start native applications without know the OS ? this are additional features in java.
Please look on what it means a 100% pure java application.
I have one, and runs on OS/400 DB also (without any comma changes).

Occasionally we determine in our Java code whether we are running on an iSeries or on some other platform by looking at the system property "os.name" like so:
if (System.getProperty("os.name").equals("OS/400")) {
do something;
else {
do something else;
}
I thought Java was write once, run anywhere. You mean one needs to know that platform one is running on and do things differently because of it?
I'm shocked! <g>
