Aaron, In general, it would be a good practice to encapsulate your file access into a single object or interface that will represent your various entities. There are several patterns that are used for this like Data Access Objects (DAO) and Most IDEs like Eclipse/WDSc have excellent tools for showing where classes/interfaces/packages/etc. are used. They also provide excellent refactoring support that go beyond what a tool like Hawk Eye can in helping you with renames and changes. In the RPG world we have products like Hawk Eye that search source and produce a listing of which programs use a file and how they use it. Is there something similar in Java? We are looking to use Entity Beans. Aaron Bartell
