We use CVS for Java & Turnover for RPG. The two apps are actually different beasts - CVS is a source code manager, whereas Turnover is a Change Management System. Although you could in theory get Turnover to manage your source, in practise CVS does a much better job, with is reporting, tagging & branching. Similary you could try and get CVS to mange RPG source code. But CVS won't help you move the complied objects into the correct environment.
