The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.

Take PHP,
a great language, but very focused to web development. You dont need
libraries for Widgets or 3d capabilities.
And yet, there are more open source packages available for PHP than for
Java (or any other language, I think!).

yeah correct. But so much trash you wont believe it. There are about 30
nuke clones and 45 groupwares. PHP really lacks of enterprise
developers. There are some but...
I created a more or less known groupware and open sourced it years ago
(www.moregroupware.org), but left the group when i realized that
programming PHP destroys my coding style ;-) You can program in such a
dirty way that it hurts and many PHP programmers develop this way, no
MVC, no templates, no DB abstraction, crazy. The OO implementation was
also very bad 2 years ago, but it gets better with PHP5.
