The problem is entirely in your architecture. I have WebSphere running on a tiny model 270 with 1GB of RAM with a whopping 370 CPW, and I get subsecond response time on my applications. Go here to try it over a 384KB DSL: http://www.plutabrothers.com/PBDWeb/p1e.html I use WebSphere Express and my own JSP Model II architecture, and I get great response time. Why do I get great response time and you don't? Because my business logic is written in RPG, not Java, so I don't use EJBs. In short: if you cannot get good response time on an iSeries using WebSphere, it's because you're writing your application incorrectly. People who insist on writing "platform independent" applications and then slamming them onto the iSeries waste the strengths of the iSeries. If you write your business logic in RPG and merely use you web application server as a UI transport, you can get great response time. I do. Joe
