Although this is the java forum and your question seeks a java response, I am bound to say that the easiest way by far is to use IBMs Net.data product which ships free with the OS. It is not java but it is a very flexible cgi script based appplication that makes it easy for novices to call existing iSeries programs or commands via script or build complete html pages from a database simply by using standard SQL select statements.
