Since this is the Java list, are you talking about Java specific
software/SDKs???

How scanned? Flat bed or with a barcode scanner?  Most barcode scanners
have 'software' in them to decode the barcode into human readable stuff. If
it is the type that plugs in-line with the keyboard, you just need a field
on the screen to accept the decoded data.
