I've had similar problems here V5R1.  Another oddity is closing the sign-on
window via the "X" as opposed to the "Cancel" button.  The "X" never closes
the sign-on attempt.  Found that out after an automated sing-on failed
because the password was set to "expired".  We wanted to get out and wait
for the admin to reset the password.  Couldn't close the window with the "X"
because it kept popping back.

No PTF found, and no documentation of this behaviour.
