Re: byte[] to String conversion

Did you try
java.lang.String {
    public String(byte bytes[], int offset, int length, String enc);
}

As in:
String s = new String(byteArray, offset, length, "yourencoding");

Just guessing but "Cp037" could conceivably work for your encoding.
