Jumping in a little late but this is a big can of worms.

The name eclipse and it's relation to sun is no accident.  IBM and Sun have
been trading barbs back and forth about this for a while.

I tend to take anything IBM says about forte with a grain of salt and the
same goes for Sun in relation to SWT and Eclipse.  SWT and Eclipse are NOT
part of the core java offerings which is what my understanding of what the
JCP is for.  Not for all the open source projects out there to all use the
same design process.  If you want to add to the design of SWT download the
code and make cool changes so the eclipse team will integrate them.
