Really? What J2EE-based application suite did you find that outperforms
RPG-based ERP systems? I've done a bunch of research on this, and I'm
seriously interested in hearing about a J2EE solution that can perform MRP
generations on databases with tens of millions of records. I have yet to
see one in production.

All the J2EE applications I've seen sort of dwindle away at the CRM or SCM
level, and never really make it into the manufacturing side of the shop.
They can handle customer order entry and fulfillment, but shop floor control
and material requirements planning seem to be beyond the capabilities of
most J2EE packages. However, if a pure J2EE MRP/SFC package exists, it
would be an excellent candidate for deployment on the iSeries.
